2008 State Convention FAQ Sheet

  1. Q: If I am currently an alternate delegate to the Convention, how can I become a Delegate?
  2. A: Alternate delegates become delegates only when there is a delegate vacancy within your respective district and precinct during the State Convention.

  3. Q: What activities can paid Conventions “Guests” attend?
  4. A: Registered Guests may attend any of the activities that are not marked “Closed media/closed guest” on the 2008 Convention Schedule. Activities that guests can attend include the Vendors Fair, Voter Vault Open House, Election Overview Presentation, Honolulu Voter Registrar Training, Welcome Reception (Friday), Hospitality Suites, and General Sessions I and IV.

  5. Q: Is the Hawaii Republican Party State Convention a Hawaii Republican Party fundraiser?
  6. A: No, the Convention is not held to fundraise for the Hawaii Republican Party. All registration fees are used to pay for Convention costs, per the Hawaii Republican Party rules (Article II, Part B, Section 208) which states, “A registration fee may be imposed upon convention delegates and alternates, but the fee shall be limited to an amount reasonably necessary to pay for the actual expenses of the convention.”

  7. Q: Why is there a post-mark deadline to return the Convention registration form?
  8. A: A post-mark deadline is needed in order to have enough time to properly prepare for the logistics of hosting over 1,000 attendees at the Convention.

  9. Q: What is the Election Overview Presentation?
  10. A: The Election Overview Presentation is open to all delegates, alternate delegates, and guests. It includes a session on Republican Party strategy for 2008, an update from the Republican National Committee Headquarters, an update from the John McCain for President Campaign, and a State Capitol update.

  11. Q: What is included in the Campaign Training Seminar?

A: The Campaign Training Seminar is open only to delegates and alternate delegates. It includes seminars on campaign legal/finance compliance, fundraising methods, fundamentals of communication, volunteer recruitment, voter ID, and Voter Vault.
